Ministries of Mercy

Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.” Luke 10:37

‘Ministries of Mercy’ is the collective name for a number of projects providing practical help and support to the community. It comes from the parable of the Good Samaritan. Jesus tells us to be like the Good Samaritan, who provided shelter, finances, medical care and friendship to the man he came across in need on the Jericho road.

We at Christ Church Mayfair are therefore committed to supporting and equipping the church family to respond to the different needs of those we come across, whether they are on our doorstep or on the other side of the world. Underpinning all the projects we support is a desire that our practical acts of love extend to meeting people’s deepest need of reconciliation with God. Therefore in all our endeavours we aim, where appropriate, to communicate the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Some of the ministries we support are below:

Tamar Westminister: AntiTrafficking

Tamar-Logo-with-roseTamar works in Westminster to reach and support workers in the sex industry, with a focus on trafficked women.  Women from Christ Church Mayfair work with Tamar in a variety of ways to support, care for, and help these people in need.  If you'd like to get involved please  E-mail Dawn for more information.

The Gate Pregnancy Crisis Centre

The Gate offers free confidential advice from trained advisors to men and women who face unplanned pregnancy or miscarriage or post-abortion struggles.  A number of members of CCM have trained to be advisors at the Gate (this training is currently being redeveloped and will recommence in the Autumn).  One of the other main ways we try to help The Gate is to make sure people know about them, by placing posters of this service in public places (pub toilets, libraries, GP surgeries, hostels, etc...).  If you would like to be involved in either of these ways, please email Barbara.

Homeless Outreach

We have good links with an organisation called ASLAN whose mission is to show God's love to homeless people. They are overseen by All Soul's Langham Place and they coordinate teams of volunteers from a number of churches. Their ministries include a day centre, tea runs, entertainment evenings, a winter shelter and visiting. You could get involved once a month - or of course more if you like! You will be well looked after and will work with a consistent team so that you build strong and encouraging friendships. A number from CCM are blessed to serve in this way. See www.ASLAN.org.uk for more info or email the church office
