Joining The Church Family

We love to welcome newcomers to Christ Church Mayfair and have found that the quickest way for people to feel settled and part of the church family is to get involved. We think the best ways to do this, for both practical and biblical reasons, are by:
- coming regularly on a Sunday and to the monthly prayer meeting
- joining a small group
- serving in some way
- supporting the ministry of Christ Church Mayfair.

Sundays at Christ Church Mayfair

10:15am - Our morning service has a real family feel and encompasses a broad range of ages. Come from 10am and you can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. During the service, we have God’s word read and explained, spend some time praying together and sing a mixture of both new songs and old hymns. We often have time for questions after the sermon and enjoy an opportunity to discuss what we’ve heard together over (more!) coffee at the end of the service. The service lasts about an hour and a quarter.
We also provide an excellent youth and children’s programme, aiming to help the under 18s grow in their understanding of Jesus Christ, and to help them love and live for Him. To read more on this click here.
Once a month those who are able stay and share lunch together, in the summer in the form of a picnic in nearby Green Park.

6:30pm - Our evening service has a slightly more relaxed feel than the morning – we have lots of 20s-30s, professionals and students from a number of London universities. The service lasts about an hour and a half and is comprised of Bible reading, prayer, an explanation of God’s word and singing. Join us from 6:15pm for drinks and snacks before the service and stay to enjoy more of the same at the end.

Here’s the current Christ Church Mayfair term card

Monthly Prayer Meeting

Our humble dependence on the Lord is most obviously expressed in prayer which is why we encourage the whole church family to come along to our prayer meeting on the first Wednesday of every month 7.15 for light supper, 7.45-9pm for prayer.

We greatly value this opportunity to commit to the Lord the work we are doing in his name here at Christ Church Mayfair, as well as our concerns for church family members, our city, nation and world. Each time we have a list of suggested things, people and situations to pray for so you don’t need to have lots of great topics for prayer up your sleeve before you come along! We also share the Lord’s Supper together.

Every month we also produce a prayer diary, aiming to help us as a church family to know how to support each other in prayer

Small Groups

Being in a small group is a great way to get to know some of the members of the church family really well and to learn from God’s word together as we read, discuss and apply it to our lives. The descriptions below should help you decide which group might work best for you. Groups meet every week except when we have a prayer meeting.

Knowing God (KG) groups meet on either Wednesday or Thursday evening in church with supper from 7.15pm (there’s a small charge for food). Groups start at 7.45pm and finish at 9pm. KG is ideal if you work in central London and want to come to read the Bible and pray with others before you head home. The Wednesday and Thursday groups study the same passage so it’s just a question of which night is more convenient for you.

Home Groups - A number of groups meet in homes around London to study God’s word, pray and usually share a meal together. Home groups tend to be made up of a variety of ages and stages from the congregations. To find out the location of the group nearest to you, contact us on the address below.

Prepared to Serve (PTS) - For those who have done Knowing God, Prepared to Serve goes deeper into how to apply evangelical doctrines to the practicalities of ministry.  This meets at church on Thursday evenings.

Student Knowing God (SKG) - On Tuesday nights the students get together in the church for Student KG. They meet at 6 for 6:30, enjoying a talk, an open question time, some tasty supper, small-group Bible studies, and then a chance to chill out over coffee and pudding. Little Lambs is a playgroup for babies and preschool children, with their parents or care-givers. This group meets on Thursdays from 10.00 – 11.30am during school term-time. Come along for a fun, friendly atmosphere, toys, stories, songs, lots of space to play as well as coffee and grown-up conversation! Women’s Bible Study - The Women’s Bible study is a day-time group that provides an opportunity for women available during the day to study the Bible together and support one another in prayer and in other practical ways. The group currently meets on Friday mornings when a crèche is provided for those with small children. Contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) for more information.

Explore and Hub -  A chance for Internationals to meet together. They meet at 7:15pm every Monday evening during term time for an affordable hot meal, and then split into small groups for discussion or Bible study. Explore is a great place to seek answers to your questions about God and life, as well as make new friends. Hub is a great place to hear God speak through the Bible, as well as make new friends. - helping at the parent and toddler group, Little Lambs
- preparing and serving food on Sunday evenings
- helping to run the sound desk on Sundays (training given!)
- reaching out to the homeless (Monday ‘Street Team’)
- helping to run the bookstall
- helping at the International Café
- helping to do odd jobs on the building

For more information or to offer help on any of the above, email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

Supporting the ministry

The apostle Paul describes the Macedonian church pleading “with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints” 2 Cor 8:4 in terms of them giving financially to support his ministry and other churches. We encourage those who consider themselves part of the church family to give to the work of the Lord at Christ Church Mayfair and beyond. Read more information on giving, contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Music

We are blessed with a good number of excellent musicians, and enjoy lively singing – particularly at our evening service, where the band is generally 7- or 8-piece. The songs that we sing represent the best of UK, USA and Australian writers and combine new and traditional music.

Simon Pedley, our Assistant Minister, runs the music and Nathan Richards is our music apprentice.

If you are a member of the congregation here, and would like to serve in this way, please contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Mission Partners

The Lord Jesus instructed his disciples to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
In obedience to this instruction and because of a love for those who don’t yet know the Lord, a number from our church family have gone to other parts of the UK and around the world. We are pleased to partner with them and support them both financially and in prayer.
