Over the next few weeks, we are going to post some interviews with new members of the student team to get to know them a bit better before term starts. This week it's Lucy, with a mug of coffee.
How are you settling into London? What's been new?
I've found that London is big and busy! Loving all the parks, especially the wild peacocks in our closest one! [Holland Park, and it's true! - ed]
What were you doing last year?
I have just graduated from Newcastle University, where I was reading English Literature and Language.
What was the best thing about it?
I really love children's books and writing, so for me the best bit of my degree was being able to bring those two together; for my dissertation I wrote a novella about a young boy called Thomas who discovers his mother is a British spy.
What are you looking forward to about the student team this year?
Meeting lots of new people and learning how I can best serve them by encouraging and challenging them to live for Christ.
Tell us one verse of the Bible that's been exciting you recently.
'Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterwards you will take me into glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion for ever.' Psalm 73 v 23-26
I recently came across this psalm and am loving it atm! We have it up in our kitchen and I find it v helpful to remind myself of what a great God we have: one who will never leave us, and is guiding us home. Therefore, as the psalmist says, 'Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you', literally, what man made god is better than God? He is so great, why on earth would I desire anything else in this world more than him? God is ace.
