Names of God

Recently I've been thinking about what it means that God has so many different names throughout the Bible. Each one tells us about different aspects of God's character that he reveals to us. For example, not only is he Elohim, the All-Powerful Creator, but he is also Jehovah-Rohi, my Shepherd. Not only is he Jehovah-Sabaoth, the Lord of Hosts/Armies, but he is also Yahweh-Shalom, the Lord of Peace. When you put together all the different ways in which God describes himself - as well as Jesus and the Holy Spirit - you can begin to build up a picture of what an amazing God we worship!

If you have time over the Christmas holidays I would encourage to find out some more of God's names in the Bible and reflect on what they tell us about him. There are lots of websites that can help you if you're not sure where to begin! The reason I first starting thinking about this subject was after hearing this song, which is well worth a listen. The girl has a beautiful voice, and it's a great way to start thinking about what just a few of God's names mean. Enjoy!
