Never give up… Meeting

Picture the scene: It’s 5:30 on Sunday afternoon (or 9:30 in the morning if you’re awake that early and thinking of coming to the morning service!). There’s still work to be done for tutorials tomorrow morning, I’m desperately clinging on to the last shreds of the lazy weekend, and X-Factor/Spooks/Downton Abbey is on soon. Why would I come to church?!

We love all the opportunities that students have for fellowship, Bible input and prayer through the week. SKG, university CUs, one-to-ones, prayer triplets and bumping into Christian mate on campus are all brilliant. But the student team is convinced that the Sunday service is the highlight of it all.

As we gather together as a whole church, something unique is happening. The question is, What? So in this “Never give up…” series, we’re going to think about what happens on a Sunday. We’ll get a chance to think about why things might be different than you’re used to, why we do them at all, and how we can make the most of them. Hopefully we’ll all end up more excited about Sundays.

The series takes its name from Hebrews 10:25, where we are urged: “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another”. Do you see that the reason to commit to keep meeting is so that we can encourage one another. So there are two things we should expect on a Sunday. We will be encouraged, and God will use us to encourage others. That’s worth a few hours at the end of the weekend!

Encourage one another. You need us, and we need you. Students of Christ Church Mayfair, let us never give up meeting together.
